Flybox was founded in June 2004 by Ian J Christie, a keen trout fisherman since the age of 10.

Ian's first job in fly tying was in his home town of Perth at the world renowned fishing tackle and gun shop, PD Malloch, which was founded by Peter Duncan Malloch in 1871. PD Malloch was one of the world's leading experts on trout and salmon fishing until his death in 1921 and his high standards of fly tying and materials have been core to Ian's development as a fly tying expert and trout fishing enthusiast, leading him to competition level in fly fishing before the age of 18.
